Le port à cathétérisme est un cas (réservoir ou pièce) établi sous cutané et relié à une centrale à cathéter veineux.
Ce dernier est un tube stérile très fin, biocompatible, de 1 à 2 mm de diamètre et d’une vingtaine de centimètres de longueur.
Il est généralement introduit dans une veine de la base du cou (veiné céphalique, veine sous clavière, veine jugulaire interne)
A chaque utilisation, il est nécessaire de piquer la peau pour atteindre la pièce.
L’aiguille utilisée est appelée aiguille d’Hubert qui reste souvent des places de là à 7 jours.
Ce type de cathéter ne nécessite pas de bandage: les bains et les douches sont autorisés après cicatrisation complète (environ deux semaines)
