It was in Montpellier that the first faculty of medicine was founded at the beginning of the 13th century (17 August 1220). The bull of Cardinal Conrad is the consecration and recognition of the faculty by the papal authority. Since the beginning of the eleventh century doctors have been teaching in Montpellier.
